Poetry is Everywhere!
You probably already know some great poems - like the ones by Dr. Seuss, Jack Prelutsky and Shel Silverstein.
Poetry comes in many shapes, sizes and forms. You will find it printed in books with just words or sometimes illustrated with wonderful drawings. People enjoy reading poems silently but often, they are meant to be read aloud. When we read them aloud together, we can listen for their rhymes, rhythm and surprising language.
Some poetry is funny or silly. Some poems are sad. Some poetry is set to music in the form of songs. Other poems bend the rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling!
On this website, you can listen to poems that have been recorded, watch animated poetry that includes music, pictures and video and read about the lives of your favorite poets to find out how they create poems.
After we have explored the resources here, we will use some online tools to create our own poems to share.
Have fun! Enjoy learning!
